Westbourne Green Trim Trail: Review + Sample Workout
Location and Facilities
Westbourne Green trim trail is located on the Harrow Road, opposite Royal Oak Tube station. The Green affords a useful training space for Westbourne Park or Notting Hill residents that don’t fancy the run to Hyde Park. Maida Vale and Warwick Avenue residents could also use it as an alternative to the, albeit more picturesque, Regent’s Park.
The trim trail’s 9-stations, designed by Playground Facilities Ltd, are placed around a 200 metre running path.
The exercise stations include 2 pull up bars, a pair of parallel dip bars and 2 sets of angled balance beams. The aerobic step station has 3 different heights.
There is also a sequence of twelve steps placed in a zig-zag pattern but – as they are so far apart – you may have to jump between them. This exercise is only for those confident in their balance. At the end of the trail is a stretching station.
Muddy Plimsolls Sample Workout
The Muddy Plimsolls approach has always been to use the landscape as best you can wherever you train. Here’s a circuit you can try that utilises the running path and the inclines it follows.
1. Start at one station, perform a set of reps.
2. Run the entire circuit of the trim trail until you get to the next station along from (1)
3. Perform a set of reps.
4. Run in the opposite direction until you get to the next station along from (2)
5. Continue until all stations have been worked on.
Nb. I recommend avoiding the ‘chain bridge’ station. Its value as a piece of fitness equipment is limited. Plus it’ll slow your workout down!
